Join Mellissa Read-Devine for this bold and colourful still life workshop focussing on florals. Immersing yourself in the glorious freedom of colourful, bold brushstrokes. Students can either bring in a bundle of their favourite florals to set up a still life, work from your garden photos or from another inspiration source.
What to expect
Students will learn:
- To simplify shapes and keep your colours bold and bright
- About colour mixing
- How to build and balance the composition
- How to approach contemporary paintings

Is this course right for me?
Some prior experience with acrylics is assumed. Students should have attended at least an introductory workshop or class.
Materials
Please bring the following:
- Stretched Canvas/Canvas Board or 300gsm watercolour paper taped to a board. Recommended size no smaller than 20”x 24” (55x61cm), or a square format if desired. 2 -3 canvasses in total.
- Your acrylic paints. Bring what you have, please use good ‘artist’ quality paints. Inferior paints do not produce good results. We recommend Matisse Derivan or Atelier brand paints, see recommended colours below.
- Drying retarder (optional).
- Your brushes. A selection of large and small brushes.
- A palette knife for mixing paint.
- Your painting palette – a large flat surface is best.
- Large container for water.
- Rags or paper towel.
- Water spray.
Colours recommended
Bring whatever colours you have, with the following selection giving you a key palette mix:
- Titanium White
- Magenta or Alizarin Red
- Cadmium Red
- Pthalo Blue
- Cerulean Blue
- Yellows (cool and warm)
- Dioxyzine Purple

Our class sizes are small, ensuring you receive the individual tuition you need. We have a maximum of 12 students per class.
