Ceramics | Sweet Treats with Jayanto Tan
Come and join us making Sweet Treats or Indonesian Jajan Pasar. In this class, Jayanto will guide you to make your dream street vendor snacks that are inspired by his motherland’s culture, and the foods that evoke memories. Be inspired by the rich colours, cultures, textures, shapes and designs of real or imaginary snacks and a knowledge about street vendor food, and create a life-size delicious clay sculpture. Explore the materiality of clay and have fun experimenting in this workshop for all ages and levels of experience.
What to expect
In this workshop, you will begin with sketching your ideas from a holiday photo or memory. Jayanto will help you navigate the design and hand-building possibilities and limitations. You will learn hand-building skills and tips and tricks to make your dream snacks.
You will explore surface decoration techniques including underglazing and texture.
What will you achieve?
During this workshop you will:
• Create a street vendor snacks-inspired sculpture for wall or free-standing
• Learn the essential hand-building and mould techniques
• Learn professional tips and tricks
• Learn underglazing and surface texture technique
Is this class right for me?
This small class is suitable for all levels. Families welcome, though children must be at least 6 years old to participate.
What should I bring?
Please bring your stories, holiday photos, memory objects and a small plate to share during the half-hour break (snack, fruit, cake, etc.)

Site Directions
Art Est Art School is located at 10 Hill Street Leichhardt, on the corner of Hill Street and John Street in the 'east village' precinct of Leichhardt.
Parking
There is no on-site parking. Please allow time to find parking in the surrounding streets. Please respect our neighbours and do not park outside our premises as this section of Hill Street is a narrow, dead-end street with resident and commercial business parking only. Thank you.
Public Transport
If taking Public Transport, take the 470 Bus to Moore Street Leichhardt and alight at John Street.
If travelling by train, it is a good 20 minute walk from Stanmore Station via Young Street.
The closest Light Rail stop is Lilyfield. Cross the City West Link and walk along Catherine Street and turn left at Hill Street. Allow 15-20 minutes walk time depending on your pace.
