Discover the world of oil painting in this immersive two-day workshop designed for beginners. With materials supplied, it is the perfect way to try the beautiful medium of oils.
Day 1: Exploring Basic Techniques
During the first day, students will explore basic oil painting techniques using the still life as your subject. Through a series of hands-on exercises and demonstrations, students will learn how to effectively handle oil paints, mix colors, and apply paint to the canvas. Emphasis will be placed on understanding colour theory, composition, and traditional painting techniques. Engaging discussions and practical exercises will help students grasp the foundational skills needed to build their confidence.
Day 2: Building Proficiency and Expression
Building upon the skills acquired on the first day, students will delve into more advanced techniques such as layering and glazing. With a strong emphasis on individual creativity, participants will be encouraged to apply their newfound skills to create a unique painting that reflects their personal style and vision. This is a friendly, relaxing workshop designed to breakdown oil painting into accessible stages for beginners. If you have ever been interested in learning oil painting but don’t know where to start, this workshop is the perfect introduction and is ideal for anyone eager to establish a strong artistic base from which to grow and develop their skills.
Material List
Art materials such as paints, brushes, palettes and mediums will be supplied for this introductory workshop. If you already have your own oil paints, brushes etc, please bring them with you. Your tutor works with a particular colour palette and quality of oil paint, so your paints may not be appropriate. Bring them along anyway and your tutor can advise.
Please bring the following:
- Latex gloves
- Rags or a roll of paper kitchen towel
- One or two jam jars with lids for mixing solvents and clean up
- Packet of sanitizing wipes for clean up
